4、ppliersprovideinputs.Thecompanythenaddsvaluetotheseinputs,beforepassingthemdownstreamtothenextactorinthechain,thecustomer(whetheranotherbusinessorthefinalconsumer).Seenfromthisperspective,strategyisprimarilytheartofpositioningacompanyintherightplaceonthevaluechain-therightbu
5、siness,therightproductsandmarketsegments,therightvalueaddingactivities.Today,however,thisunderstandingofvalueisasoutmodedastheoldassemblylinethatitresemblesandsoistheviewofstrategythatgoeswithit.Globalcompetition,changingmarkets,andnewtechnologiesareopeningupqualitativelynew
6、waysofcreatingvalue.Theoptionsavailabletocompanies,customers,andsuppliersareproliferatinginwaysHenryFordneverdreamedof.Ofcourse,moreopportunitiesalsomeanmoreuncertaintyandgreaterrisk.Forecastsbasedonprojectionsfromthepastbecomeunreliable.Factorsthathavealwaysseemedperipheral
