2、past150years.Inthepastdecade,theyhavebeendevelopedbyuniversitiesandacademicpersuadedbytheOpenAccessmovementthatthisprocessdoesnotlibrariesasapartofthatmovement,haveadequatelydisseminateandpromotetheworkoftheirownscholarlyopenlychallengedthetraditionalscholarlyresearchcommunities,andhavedevelopedindi
3、vidualinstitutionalrepositories,electronicarchivesoftheresearchoutputofstaffemployedcommunicationsystem.Thisarticleattheirinstitutions.However,theevidenceshowsthatdespiteaexaminesthegrowthofrepositoriesaroundconsiderableinvestmentonthepartofacademiclibrariesinthesetheworld,andsummarizesagrowingbodyr
4、epositoriesthescholarsandresearcherswhoseworkitisintendedtosupporthavenotshownthesamecommitmenttoOpenAccess.Theofevidenceoftheresponseofacademicsto“builditandtheywillcome”philosophythatlibrarieshaveadoptedhasinstitutionalrepositories.Itreportsthenot,asyet,beenjustified.Whilesomeinstitutionshaveadopt
5、edfindingsofanationalsurveyofacademicsmandatorydepositasasolutiontothisproblem,othershavemovedontootherinitiatives,leavingtheirrepositoriestolanguishwithlittlewhichhighlightstheconflictbetweenthegrowth,andlessrelevancetotheacademiccommunity.Thesituationprinciplesandrewardsofthetraditionalraisesanumb
6、erofquestions,aboutwhetherthetraditionalscholarlyscholarlycommunicationsystem,andthecommunicationparadigmandtheOpenAccessmovementareactuallyinconflict;whether,despitecomplaintsaboutthetraditionalscholarlybenefitsofOpenAccess.Thearticlecommunicationmodel,researchersaretooweddedtoittotakeadvantageconc
