2、,IranAbstractPurposeWhileinnovationhasmanysimilaritiestootherformsofprojectsitischaracterisedbyahighfailurerateandtheneedtostimulatecreativity.Moreexplicitriskmanagementcouldhelpinachievingsuccessininnovationprojects.However,toomuchorinappropriateriskmanagementmightstifl

3、ethecreativitythatiscoretoinnovation.So,whatprojectriskmanagementshouldbeappliedandwhereintheinnovationproject?Design/methodology/approachAtheoreticalframeworkisproposedwhichcombinesthegenericinnovationprocesswithprojectriskmanagement.Theframeworkwasusedtoanalysethecurre

4、ntattitudestomanaginginnovationriskinaseriesofcompanies.FindingsThedecisionpointsofthestage-gateinnovationprocessmodelprovideaneffectiveinterfaceforincorporatingprojectriskconcepts.Thegeneralconceptsappearmostrelevanttoinnovationmanagementthoughitisusefultocustomisethemt

5、oemphasisetheparticularcharacteristicsofinnovationprojects.Theexperienceofusingtheresultantcombinedmodelinanumberofdiversecasestudiesindicatestherelevanceofthemodelinunderstandingattitudestowardsriskmanagementininnovation.Theanalysisofthecasestudycompaniessuggestedthatri
