1、APerspectiveofcultureintotheTranslationofChineseandEnglishIdiomsIntroduction1.1AimoftheStudyItisalonghistorysincelanguageandculturehavebeenlinkedtoeachotherinresearch.Todiscusstranslationbyproceedingfromtherelationshipbetweenlanguageandcultureisanewtopicaswellasarichfieldforresearch.
2、Widelyrecognizedasthecrystallizationoflanguage,idiomshavealsobecomethehottopicoftheacademiccirclewiththeiruniversalappeal.Ithasbeennoticedthat,untilnow,muchofthepreviousworkonthestudyofEnglishandChineseidiomshasoftenbeenconcernedwithdefinitions,classifications,features,origins,andbas
3、ictranslationmethod,etc.Theseaspectshavebeenmadeincisivestudiesbyresearchers;however,asthegemofanation’sculture,idiomsshouldhavemoreconnectionwithculture.Itisthecolorfulculturalinformation,nationalflavorandthecharmofalienculturethatshouldbedeeplystudiedandcarriedforwardrelyingonthest
4、rengthoftranslation.AsJuriLotmanmaintains,“nosinglelanguageisnotrootedinaspecificculture;neitherdoesacultureisnotcenteredbythestructureofsomecertainnaturallanguage.”(JuriLotman,1987)Therefore,onecangetamoresatisfyingresultbyconsideringculturalfactorsinthesametimeasstudyingthesourcela
5、nguageandrenderingittothetargetedlanguage.Fromthisperspective,translatorsshouldnotonlytranslatetheimageandrhetoricdevicesofSLbutalsoitsnationalandlocalflavorandpaymuchattentiontoitsculturaldivergences.Inviewoftheinadequacyandincomprehensiveresearchdoneintheidiomtranslationfieldandthe
6、greatsignificanceoftheinfluenceofculturalfactorsonidiomtranslation,thepresentpaperwillmakeacomprehensivestudyofEnglishand69Chineseidiomsintheculturalperspective.Inthepresentpaper,theauthorwillelaboratetherelationshipbetweenlanguage,cultureandidiomtranslation,followedbyacomprehensivea
7、nalysisofinfluenceofdiversifiedculturalfactorsonidiomtranslation.BycombiningwithaliteraturereviewofsometranslationtheoriesandGrice’snon-naturalmeaningtheory,theauthorsummarizesafewidiomtranslationmethodsandappliestheminspecificexampleidioms.Itishopedthatwhattheauthorpresentsinthispap
