4、riaaswellastheequipmentinusearereviewed,withspecialattentiontosomeoftheproblemsencounteredindailyroutinepracticesuchasfixation,stainingandabsolutecounting.Oneofthemainadvantagesofflowcytometryoverepi-fluorescencemicroscopyistheabilitytoobtaincell-specificmeasurementsinlargenumbersofcells

5、withlimitedeffort.Wediscusshowthischaracteristichasbeenusedfordifferentiatingphotosyntheticfromnon-photosyntheticprokaryotes,formeasuringbacterialcellsizeandnucleicacidcontent,andforestimatingtherelativeactivityandphysiologicalstateofeachcell.Wealsodescribehowsomeoftheflowcytometricallyo
