3、ementya¨-.Startingfromananalysisofrelativeclausesandpossessorsaspredicatesoftheir‘‘heads,’’thisarticledevelopsasyntaxofcomplexnounphrasesinAmharicthatexplainstheraisond’eˆtreandplacementofya¨-,andalsoaccommodatesfactsaboutdefinitenessmarkingandagreementintheAmhariccomplexnounphrasethathave

6、andthatrelativeclausesvaryparametricallywithrespecttowhethertheyareintroducedbyaChead,asinEnglishorHebrew,orbyaDhead,asOuhallaarguesisthecaseinArabicandAmharic,thefociofhisarticle.ArabicandAmharicdifferinthat,inthelatter,therelativeclause’sTPraisestoSpec,DP,thusdeliveringawordorderinwhicht
