3、odel(inACT-R,Anderson,2007)toexplainhowreferringexpressionsareacquiredandused.Onthebasisofsimulationsofthismodel,itispredictedthatWMconstraintsonlyaffectadultspronounresolutioninstorieswithatopicshift,butnotinstorieswithoutatopicshift.Thislatterpredictionwastestedinanexperiment.Theresultsofthisexper

6、thefinalsentencestartswithapotentiallyambiguouspronoun(he),whichcanrefertobothmalecharactersinthegivenlinguisticcontext(EricandPhilip).Generally,pronounsareusedtorefertothemostsalientcharacterorentity(i.e.,thetopic)inthelinguisticdiscourse(a.o.,Ariel,1990;Gundel,Hedberg,&Zacharski,1993).Correspondenc
