3、dreduceparticulatematter(PM)fromin-usedieselvehicles.Tostudythefuelperformance,threeoxygenatedblendfueldesignscontainingvolumesof15%ethanolwithcetaneimproveradditive,10%ethanolwith10%biodieseland15%ethanolwith20%biodieselwereformed.Thephysicalstabilityofe
4、thanoldieselblendisstudiedandphaseseparationispreventedbyaddingcosolventslikeTetrahydrafuranandbiodiesel.Tomeetstricteremissionnorms,nowdieselenginesarefittedwithaftertreatmentdevices.Thispaperdescribestheengineandemissioncharacteristicsoftheaboveblendfue
5、lsona4cylinder,naturallyaspiratedlightdutydieselenginefittedwithdieseloxidationcatalyst.Theenginetestresultsshowthatitisfeasibletousetheseblendsindieselengines:thethermalefficienciesoftheenginefueledbytheblendsarecomparablewiththatfueledbydiesel,withsmall
6、increaseinfuelconsumption,duetothelowerheatingvalueofethanolandbiodiesel.Thesmokeemissionsfromtheenginefueledbytheblendsarelowerthanthatfueledbydieselowingtotheincreasedoxygencontent.Thereductionismoreathigherloads.TheHCandCOemissionsarefoundtobehigheratl
