3、etcomprisesanacousticallytransparent,uppersiltyunitthatoverliesahighlyreflectivesandyunit,characterisedbyachannelisederosivebase.Radiocarbonandbiostratigraphicnannofloraldatingofselectedsamplesprovideschronostratigraphiccontrolforthesuccession,indicatingthattheentiresequenceisprobablylateQuatern
4、aryinage(~600kyrB.P.).Basedmainlyonnannofossilpaleoenvironmentalinterpretationsandseismicreflectioncharacteristics,itisproposedthatthesiltyunitsrepresentinterglacialhighstanddepositsandthattheinterveningsandyunitsweredepositedeitherasglaciallowstandortransgressivenearshoredepositsthatdevelopedun
5、derrisingsea-levelconditions.Erosive,irregularbasalunconformitieswereprobablydevelopedduringrelativesea-levelfallandrepresentType1sequenceboundaries;theremayalsohavebeenacomponentofwaveplanationduringthesubsequenttransgression.High-amplitudechannel-fillseismicunitsarepossiblyfluvialand/orparalic
6、sediments,depositedduringthesea-levellowstandand/ortheensuingtransgression.TentativecorrelationoflateQuaternaryunitsontheTaranakishelfismadetothedeep-seaoxygenisotopestagecurvetoprovidetemporalresolutionofthestratigraphicsection.Fourpossiblesedimentationmodelsareconsidered,basedondifferenttempor
