2、actofcorrection,aswellasthesimilaritiesanddifferencesintheuseofcorrectionstrategybetweenMandarinChineseandAmericanEnglishamonguniversitystudents.ThedatawerecollectedthroughDCT(discoursecompletiontests).60respondentsparticipatedinthisstudy:30nativespeakersofMandarinChinesefromNortheastNor

3、malUniversityand30nativespeakersofAmericanEnglishfromSouthernIllinoisUniversity.Foreachgroup,thenumberoffemalesequalsthatofmales.Itisfoundthattherearesimilaritiesaswellasdifferencesofcorrectionstrategiesbetweentwogroupsofspeakers.1)Thegeneralsemanticformulasofcorrectionforbothgroupsareco

4、mposedofstarters,headactsandsupporters,withtheheadactsasanecessarypart.2)BothMCs(MandarinChinesespeakers)andAEs(AmericanEnglishspeakers,theabbreviationswillbeusedbelow)prefertousemoreindirectstrategiesthandirectones.ButAEstendtousemoreindirectstrategies.Bothgroupsusealargenumberofstrateg

5、iesofdoubt,reason/explanation,softenerandhint.3)Socio-pragmaticfactorssuchassocialdistance,power,impositionofweightandpersonalfactorslikegenderandageallhavegreatimpactonchoosingcorrectionstrategies.Butthedegreeofinfluenceisdifferent.Itturnsoutthatsocialdistance,powerhavebiggerinfluenceon
