3、hesematerials,engi-neersbuiltthetechnologies,andprogrammerswrotethecode,architectsanddesignersareleftwithboththeresponsibilityandthechallengeofintegratingthesedevelop-mentsintodailylife.Wedesigntheenvironmentsthatpeoplelivein,andtheplacesthattheygoto.

4、Wearenowleftwiththedilemmaofjustwhatitisthatwearedesigning.Dowedesignbuildings,citiesandlandscapes,ordowedesignspaces,placesandviews?Dowedesigntomeetanindividual’sneedsortophysicallyexpressasocialcondition?Dowedesignforbeautyorpragmatism?Manywouldargu

5、ethatwedothemall.Whateverthereason,anditmaywellbeallofthem,theresultisalmostalwaysaphysicalthing.Itwillbecomprisedofcomponentsthatcanbespecified,weighed,measuredandassembled.Withhumanoccupation,thisstaticcollectionofphysicalthingsbecomesanenvironment–
