1、Family3FederalresourcesareavailabletosupporttheMedi-Calprogramintheareaoffamilyplanning.Forthisreason,itismostimportantthatfamilyplanningservicesprovidedtoMedi-Calrecipientsbeidentifiedbyenteringtheappropriatefamilyplanningindicatorontheclaimform.ParticipationandServicesFamilyplanningservice

2、sareprovidedtoindividualsofchildbearingagetoenablethemtodeterminethenumberandspacingoftheirchildren,andtohelpreducetheincidenceofmaternalandinfantdeathsanddiseasesbypromotingthehealthandeducationofpotentialparents.Theyincludethefollowing:·Medicalandsurgicalservicesperformedbyorunderthedirect

3、supervisionofalicensedphysician·Laboratoryandradiologyprocedures,drugsanddevicesprescribedbyalicensedphysicianParticipationParticipationmustbevoluntaryandindividualsmustnotbecoercedtoacceptservices.Familyplanningservicesshallnotberequiredforreceiptofanywelfarebenefits.Individualsmustnotbecoe

4、rcedtoemployornottoemployanyparticularmethodofbirthcontrolincludingsterilizationandabortion.Sterilizationservicesaresubjecttospecialprogramrequirements,includingaminimumage,informedconsentprocess,andwaitingperiod.(RefertotheSterilizationsectionintheappropriatePart2manualfordetailedinformatio

7、eeasilyrecognizedasfamilyplanningbytheCPT-4procedurecodeordrugtypecode(forexample,intrauterinedevice(IUD)insertion,vasectomy,contraceptivedrugsanddevices).Otherservicessuchasvisits,laboratorytestsandX-raysarenotsoreadilyidentifiableasfamilyplanning
