2、NDNOCONTRACTWILLBEAWARDEDFROMTHISANNOUNCEMENT.TheStandardsandHealthProtectionDivision(SHPD),whichisundertheOfficeofScienceandTechnology(OST)andwithinEPA'sOfficeofWater(OW)requirescontractorsupporttoprovidetechnicalsupportforassessing,managing,andcommunicatingtheecologicalandhumanhealthri
3、sksofcontaminantsinwater,fish,andsedimentofMicrobialPathogensinsurfacewaters.TheStandardsandHealthProtectionDivision’s(SHPD)responsibilitiesundertheCleanWaterActof1987(CWA)andEPA’sStrategicPlanincludedirectingthenationalprogramforadoptionofWaterQualityStandards(WQS),developingpreventiona
4、ndremediationstrategiestoreducetherisktohumanhealthandaquaticliferesultingfromcontaminatedfishandsediment,conductingaprogramforbeachmonitoringandadvisoriesrelatingtomicrobialpathogensinsurfacewaters,andpreparingoutreachandawarenessmaterials,includingdevelopinginstructionalmaterialsandpre
5、sentingworkshops.Contaminantsinsurfacewaters,sediments,andfishtissueposethreatstoecologicalandhumanhealth.Microbialpathogensinsurfacewatersalsoposethreatstohumanhealththroughbathingbeachexposure.TheFish,Shellfish,Beaches,andOutreachBranch(FSBOB)isdevelopingmethodsandguidanceforEPA’sprogr
6、amoffices,stateagencies,localgovernments,andnongovernmentalorganizationstoassess,remediate,orotherwisemanage,andcommunicatetherisksassociatedwithexposuretothesecontaminantsandmicrobialpathogens.FSBOBisalsoconductingstudiestoassessthenationalextentandseverityofsedimentsandfishtissuecontam
7、ination,aswellaswater-bornepathogenspresentatbathingbeaches.TheNationalWaterQualityStandardsProgramprovidessupportforthedevelopment,implementationandevaluationofWQSbyidentifying,assessingandcontrollingriskstoaquaticecosystems.Thissupportencompassesabroadrangeofactivities,
