2、gtourbantransportationconditionsatpresent，thelevelofserviceoftraditionaltransitsysteminmostcitiesinChinaisrelativelylowbecausecannotprovidetransitservicewithsufficientquality．Althoughmetrosystemcanprovidehigherlevelofserviceandmoreeffectivethanthatoftraditionaltransit，itsexpensiveco

3、nstructionandoperationcostsconfineitsapplicationanddevelopmentinagreatextent．Asatypeofbrand—newpublictransportation，BusRapidTransit(BRT)isrelativelycheaperinconstructionandoperationandhasalargerpassengercapacityaswellashigherlevelofservicethanthoseofthetraditionalones．Soitprovidesan

4、ewwayofdevelopingmasstransportation．However，sinceBRTisnotmaturedbothinitstechnologyandoperationitsbasictechnicalandtheoryarenotfullystudied，andneedfurtherimproving．Underthebackground，thekeytechnologyofBRTsystemisstudiedinthispaperSOthatitmakeshelpforBRTdevelopmentinChina．Firstofall，

5、thestateofartofBRTtechnologyareworldwidereviewed，andBRTsystemisthroughoutdescribedbasedonitsformationanalysis，includingitstechnicalandeconomicalcontrastswithotherpublictransportationmodels．Secondly，twokeytechnologiesofBRTright·of—ways(includingBRTstops)andBRTpre-emptiverightsoninter

6、sectionsarefullystudiedinthisthesis．Thefouraspects：thepassengerdemands，theBRTvehicularspeeds，thedrivingconditionsforothervehicles，aswellastheroadconditionsareinvolvedinthestudyoflayoutingBRTright—of-ways．Thelowerlimitofpassengerdemandsandtheminimumlengthbetweenintersectionsaresetupa

7、scontrolindexes．Theadvantages，disadvantagesanditslimitationsofsevenkindsofBRTright·of-wayarediscussed，includingthemedianBRTright-of-waysaccordingtoroadswithandwithoutmedianstripandtheroad—sideBRTright—of-ways．Themodelforcalculatingintermediatestopcapacityisformulatedbyqueuingtheorya
