3、ineAugust3,2012Todevelopastablechronicobstructivepulmonarydisease(COPD)modelinrats.Sprague-Dawleyratsweretreatedwithcigarette-smokeinhalation(CSI)for12weeks,repetitivebacterialinfection(RBI)for8weeks,orthecombinationofthetwo(CCR)for12weeksandfollowedupfortheadditional20weeks.Tidalvolume

4、(VT),peakexpiratoryflow(PEF)and50%VTexpiratoryflow(EF50),histologicalchangesinthelungs,andlevelsofthecytokinestumornecrosisfactor(TNF)-α,interleukin(IL)-8,andIL-10inserumandbronchialalveolarlavagefluid(BALF)wereexaminedatintervalsduringthe32weekstudyperiod.Therightventricularhypertrophyind

5、ex(RVHI)wasalsodeterminedatthesametimes.VT,PEF,andEF50weredecreasedinratswithCOPDcomparedtothecontrol.TheexpressionofTNF-α,IL-8andIL-10increasedinbothserumandBALFwithasimilartrend.BronchioleandarteriolewallthicknessandthedegreeofbronchiolestenosisandalveolarsizeincreasedinCOPDrats.RVHIw

6、asreducedgraduallyfollowingthetreatment.AllofthesechangesweremorepronouncedintheCCR-treatmentgroupthanintheothergroups.OurresultshaveshownthatCSIorRBIalonecaninduceCOPDinrats,butthatthecombinationofCSIwithRBIinducesastableCOPDthathasmoresimilaritytocomplicationsseeninpatientswithCOPD.Th
