2、5,1994Summary.Thenucleotidesequencesofthenucleoproteingenesofthreeenterotropicstrainsofthemurinecoronavirusmousehepatitisvirus(MHV-Y,MHV-RIandDVIM)weredeterminedandcomparedwithpreviouslyreportedsequencesofthreepolytropic(respiratory)strains(MHV-A59,MHV-JHMandMHV-S).Greaterthan92%homol

3、ogywasfoundamongthesixstrainsbypair-wisecomparisonatthenucleotidelevel.Thegenesencodedproteinsof451to455residuesandthededucedaminoacidsequencesweremorethan91~ohomologous.AuniquedeletionoftwelvenucleotideswasfoundatthecarboxyterminusofMHV-YandathreenucleotidedeletionwasfoundinMHV-RI,wh

4、ichcorrespondedtotheonepreviouslyreportedinMHV-A59andMHV-S.Twointernalopenreadingframeswerefoundwithinthecodingregionofthenucleoprotein,thesmalleronewasspecificfortheenterotropicstrains.ItcouldpotentiallyencodeatruncatedversionofthehypotheticalproteindescribedforMHV-A59andMHV-S.Sequen

5、cerelationshipoftheNgeneshowednocorrelationwithtissuetropismandnosequenceorevensingleaminoacidchangeuniquetoeithertropismgroupwasfound.ThisindicatesthatthenucleoproteinofMHVprobablyhasnopartinthedeterminationoftheprimarytissuetropismofanMHVstrain.Theroleofthepotentialinternalproteinwa

6、rrantsfurtherinvestigation.Mousehepatitisvirusisanimportantpathogenofthelaboratorymouseandthemostcommonvirusdetectedincontemporarymousecoloniesthroughouttheworld[17,21]'.Itsimplicationsonbiomedicalresearcharewelldocumented[-2,11].MHVisanRNAvirusbelongingtothecoronavirusgroup.Itishighl

7、ymutableandconsistsofanumberofantigenicaUydifferentstrainswhichvarymarkedlyinvirulenceandtissuetropism.Accordingtotheirtropismthestrains572F.R.Hombergercanbedividedintotwomaingroupswithdifferentdiseasepatterns[2].Onebiotype,therespiratoryorpolytropicstrains,primarilyinfectsthemucosaof
