4、mportantdeterminantsofcurrenteconomicperformance.1Theoriginsofthisliteraturecanbetracedtothreelinesofresearchthatbeganapproximatelyadecadeandahalfago:EngermanandSokoloff(1997,2002),LaPortaetal.(1997,1998),andAcemogluetal.(2001,2002).Althougheachlineofresearchhaddifferentmot
5、ivations,whatwascommontothemwasthateachprovidedananalysis,andsupportingevidence,forhowoneimportanthistoricaleventEuropescolonizationoftheglobewasimportantforlong-termeconomicgrowth.Sincethistime,theliteraturehasdevelopedinanumberofways.Mostnotably,otherimportanteventshaveal
